Jupiter and the journey

In astrological terms, Jupiter represents a sense of physical and mental expansion, exploration and the journeys we undertake in order to make sense of our world. In its sign in the birth chart, Jupiter can indicate what it is that we seek to know, to understand.
If you think about it - we seem to spend a great deal of our time travelling and indeed, on some sort of journey.
Sometimes this journey is a physical event - travelling from location to location, expanding our physical horizons.
Other journeys we travel in our mind, learning, processing, planning and in that way, expanding our awareness.
For sure, often our journeys have a firm destination or goal that defines where we are going, what we are aiming for, what we would like to achieve and so on.
But, we could find that our focus on the destination point is so far ahead that it's lost in the mist, the achievement of that goal could seem limiting or at times a little daunting!
Spending so much of our physical and mental energy on the end point, could result in missing out on the joy of exploration, the embracing of the adventure of life which is Jupiter's gift.
I'm reminded here of a favourite poem of mine - 'Ithaka' by the Greek poet C.P.Cavafy. The poet alludes to the journey that Odysseus took as he travelled home from the Trojan Wars to the Greek island of Ithaka and to his wife Penelope; and to the experiences he had on that journey and the knowledge he gained from that process.
The poet reminds us, in a very Jupiterian way that, although we have our destination on our mind, it's the journey that offers the greatest gifts and opportunities for personal and spiritual development.
Honour Jupiter and its wonderfully expansive energy in an open minded way, by walking your path with a sense of expectation, that around the next corner, may be exactly what you were seeking in the first place.
